Another first for JLPS!

On Tuesday, October 18th our Intermediate Girls Volleyball Team played a series of exhibition games against Herbert Carnegie Public School in our gym, coached by Mr. Pereira. The girls played with enthusiasm and were the first students ever to wear our new school jerseys and to take part in a game in our amazing gym.  Way to go Lightning!

School Council Reminder

Just a reminder that on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 pm in the library our second School Council Meeting will take place. This will be your last opportunity to put your name forward for consideration as a council member. All are welcome.

Purple Day and Homework Club

Thursday, October 20 is known in North America as Spirit Day. It is a day that people in business, government organizations, and schools wear purple to show their solidarity as they stand up against bullying. The colour purple was chosen from the rainbow as a colour that represents spirit. Show your Johnny Lombardi spirit on Spirit Day by wearing purple to show you believe that all students have a right to a safe and inclusive learning environment in any school that they go to and anywhere in the community!

Homework Club starts Wednesday,October 19!
We are happy to announce that we will be providing for students in grades 5 to 8 an after school Homework Club.  From 2:35- 3:05pm each day, students who have homework can come to the school library where staff will be available to support students with their homework. This is on a voluntary basis, unless teachers recommend that students should attend. In these incidents teachers will be contacting parents directly. Students come as they need the service; they do not have to come every day.

The expectation is that students must be working on homework. If they do not have homework they will be sent home. Students will not be coming to these sessions to be with their friends or for us to provide after school care. At 3:05pm students will be dismissed as they would have at 2:30pm.  Students must make their own arrangements to get home.  If parents are picking up their children, please wait at the front doors, where students will come out. It is the parent’s responsibility to know where their child is after 2:30pm dismissal. We will not be keeping track and informing parents if their child does or does not come to Homework Club unless the recommendation and agreement to attend Homework Club has been made between teacher and parent.

If you have additional questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Lightning Spirit!

Congratulations and thanks go out to our school community for once again supporting our special spirit days.  Our very first walk to school challenge was a success. Ms. Sher and Mr. Meagher are the proud winners of our Golden Shoe! Great job!

Many stuffies came to school on our Teddy Bear day, keeping many students smiling throughout the day!

Wednesday October 26th is Take Me Outside Day and JLPS will be participating with schools across Canada. Students are challenged to spend 1 hour outside enjoying nature instead of being plugged into technology. At JLPS teachers have planned opportunities for students to be learning outside and we encourage parents/guardians at home to do the same.

Teddy Bear Day

A note from our Johnny Lombardi Cares Team:
Johnny Lombardi students, do your teddy bears spend all day alone in your bedroom while you are at school? Well give them a treat and bring them to school! Tomorrow (Wednesday, October 12,) is Bring Your Teddy Bear to school day at Johnny Lombardi. Spend the day with a fluffy stuffie and have that warm fuzzy feeling all day long. We can't wait to see your fluffy friends as you show your Johnny Lombardi school spirit!

Parents/Guardians, Please ensure that your child's name is somewhere on your child's teddy. Thank-you for your continued support as we build our school culture and spirit!

My Teddy is already in my office!

Meet the Teacher/BBQ/Curriculum Night

What a night! Thank you to all our families and friends who were able to join us Thursday, October 6 for our very first Meet the Teacher Night. As a community we enjoyed a barbeque together, had an opportunity to put a teacher's name to a face and hear about the amazing work that already is happening in our classes and school. Thank-you to all parents who stopped me to say what a great place JLPS is already. What amazing spirit already permeates our building, how beautiful it is already, but most importantly how happy they and their children are already at JLPS. Together we are one amazing community!

Just a few more days!

The Indigo Adopt a School program ends this Sunday at 11:59 pm. If you have not already done so, we would greatly appreciate your support in building our school library through the Indigo Adopt a school program.  Please visit: adoptaschool@indigo.ca
Together we can ensure that all our students have access to an enriching library.
Thank-you to all families and friends who have already contributed. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

Blue Jays Day

In anticipation of our Toronto Blue Jays Wild Card victory on Tuesday, October 4, JLPS will be supporting our baseball team by wearing blue jay attire or blue shirts.  Please have your child come to school wearing something blue or with their blue jay shirt.
Let's see if we can get everyone this time!
