Windows to Wellness Day

Students in grades 5 to 8 took part in various activities today that helped to nourish their mind, body and soul.
We started our day with our daily mindful moment and then we had participation from our YRP, Public Health, YRDSB Mental Health Team, and various members from our community from basketball, fitness, dance and yoga instructors and even  world-recognized inspirational speaker Duane Gibson. A tremendous amount of effort went into planning today's sessions. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all the staff at JLPS for their help and especially Mr. Meagher and Mrs. Godfrey for their organization. At JLPS we strive everyday to support all our students to be mentally, emotionally and bodily healthy.

Wellness Day at JLPS

A full day of nurturing Body, Mind and Soul

JLPS's puzzle

Diversity is our strength, Equity our commitment, Inclusion our goal. (part of YRDSB Mission statement)

As part of our continued efforts to build our school community, recently all classes completed a puzzle piece acknowledging our commitment to building inclusion and bringing awareness to Autism. We will proudly hang our completed plaque for all to see for years to come.

JLPS is certified ECO Gold!

Hello JLPS Family,

Exciting news....JLPS IS GOLD CERTIFIED!

Recently our hardworking ECO Team submitted our school application to be considered as part of our ECO Schools Initiatives. With tremendous hard work from the whole school we just received the news....in our very first year we have already achieved Gold status. This is an amazing feat, for such a new school.

Here is the committee's feedback: Wow—a truly exemplary first year with Ontario EcoSchools, Johnny Lombardi PS! It is evident that the staff and students in your school and on your EcoTeam are passionate about the environment. Way to rise up to the challenges of conserving energy and minimizing your waste through effective and consistent communication. We love your “Energy Hog” campaign and how you place magnets on classroom doors to communicate to classes how they are doing with conserving energy. It was a pleasure to come and visit your school and see firsthand all of the great things you are doing for the environment. Keep up the great work, and we look forward to more submissions next year!"

A special thank-you goes to the following teachers for their leadership: Mrs. Sierra, Mrs. Colussi,
Mrs. Tsambourlianos and Mrs. Estragadinho.

Lightning Run

On Wednesday, June 7, International Run Day, JLPS grade 6, 7 and 8 students participated in our very first Lightning Run. The students trained for 7 weeks, building their stamina and preserving through many minutes of running. The grade 6s trained to be able to run 3km and the grades 7 and 8s trained to complete 5km. The sun was shining, the music was  blaring and the anticipation was high as we all began this momentous occasion. We  ran through our community, greeting many neighbors as we ran by.  Our students accomplished a great feat and we are all very proud of them.

Thank-you to Mr. Pereria and Ms. Colussi for helping with the organizing of the event. Thank-you to Mr. Parfeniuk,
Mr. Meagher, Ms. Hewlett, Mr. Pereira and Mrs. Angellotti for running with our students. Thank-you to all staff and parents who helped man a station, or supervise our students while they were running and thank-you to all staff and students who came out to cheer our students as they crossed the finish line.

The Lightning Run is now firmly established as another yearly event that our students will take part in and one that helps to build our school community stronger.

Go lightning!

Our Tree has arrived!

As part of our Official Opening Celebrations, School Council fund-raised for the installation of an additional tree for our Outdoor Classroom. Today it arrived. Thank-you again to to our community for supporting our Basket Fundraiser that supported the purchasing of this tree!  Members of our
Eco Team were out today helping with the planting and will be responsible for the watering. As you can see the students already love having it!

Basket Fundraiser Update

On behalf of our School Council I would like to extend a very sincere thank-you to our community for once again supporting  a council fundraiser. Our very first Basket Fundraiser was a great success. Together we raised $1400.00. Monies raised will be used to purchase and plant a tree to add to our Outdoor Classroom. The tree will be enjoyed for years to come and as our students are nurtured and grow over the years at JLPS, so will our tree.
