Each year, students, educators and allies bring attention to the need for safer and more inclusive learning and working environments for everyone. October 19, 2017 is Spirit Day. It is an annual day in October when millions of North Americans wear purple to show their support for LGBTQ youth and to take a stand against bullying. Students, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals, celebrities and parents wear purple to send a message that LGBTQ youth are to be celebrated and respected for who they are. On Thursday, October 19, we are asking our students to show their support for personal choice and to stand up against bullying by wearing purple. Students will be engaged in aged-appropriate conversations in their classes regarding choice and supporting others by being respectful.
