Terry Fox Walk

On Thursday, September 29 JLPS students joined students from all over Canada who walked in support of Terry Fox and his dream of finding a cure for cancer. Together as a school we raised over $400.00.  Thank-you to everyone for their support and the amazing enthusiasm shown by our students and staff.

Orange Shirt Day

On Friday September 30th, Johnny Lombardi school participated in Orange Shirt Day. The Orange Shirt Day movement started in 2013 to highlight the pain and suffering of thousands of indigenous children who were sent to residential school throughout the last century. Terry Fox and Orange Day

Upcoming events for the week of September 25th

On Thursday September 29th is Johnny Lombardi's first Terry Fox Run. Millions of students across Canada take part in this run. Terry Fox started his marathon in 1980 and needed to stop his run after 143 days in Thunder Bay. Now we continue on with it 36 years later.  He believed that anything is possible if you try. Terry Fox Day is a day for celebrating Terry Fox and helping to bring his dream of finding a cure for cancer alive. We are asking students to please contribute a tooonie to our fundraising efforts.  Thank-you for your support.

On Friday September 30th, Johnny Lombardi school will be participating in Orange Shirt Day. The Orange Shirt Day movement started in 2013 to highlight the pain and suffering of thousands of indigenous children who were sent to residential school throughout the last century. We are asking students to wear the colour orange on Friday to recognize the resiliency and bravery of Residential Survivors by wearing something orange.  Please ask your child to retell the information they were given by their teachers regarding this day.

Our First School Assembly!

Johnny Lombardi Lightning!
At our first school assembly On Friday, September 23, all students gathered together to review with staff our school expectations for conduct, behaviour and academic commitment. School rules and expectations were reviewed with all students. Please take a few moments to talk with your child about what they heard. If we work in partnership together, together we will provide the best learning experience for everyone.

Our grade 7 and 8 students and all staff were invited to offer suggestions for our school name and colours.  At our assembly these results were shared.  Going forward we will be known as the Johnny Lombardi Lightning and our school colours will be purple and white. This is just the beginning of us starting to develop our school culture and becoming a cohesive school, whose focus is on student achievement and well being.

Please be reminded that Monday, September 26 is a Professional Activity Day, when all staff will take part in developing their professional practice.  There is no school for students.

Re-Organization

Re-Organization

Each year we monitor, on a regular basis, the change that takes place between June and September in our school’s enrolment in order to make the most effective classroom organizations to meet the learning needs of all of our students. Due to a large increase in student population, we were recently allocated two additional teachers to reduce our current class sizes and therefore students need to be moved into new classes.  Please note that these changes are a result of our recent increase in student enrolment in our Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 classes and are necessary to meet provincial class size requirements.  All changes will take effect Tuesday, September 27, 2016. If your child is effected you will be receiving a letter on Friday, September 23 with this information.

Rest assured that in all of our classrooms, our teachers differentiate the instruction, assessment, and expectations based on each student’s individual strengths, needs and interests.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Staff are committed to a successful school year for each and every student at our school.

First Week, we did it!

Congratulations Everyone!
After the excitement of our first day students and staff quickly settled into the regular school routines as if we had been here for years.  Although we experienced a very humid and warm September our staff conducted themselves professionally, allowing for extra water breaks and shortened recesses. Classroom resources have started to arrive, including additional technology for all classes. Our musical instruments were unloaded, much to the enthusiasm of our students and Mr. Hunt. Mrs. Denney-Falsetta has been working tirelessly to get our Learning Commons up and stocked and Mrs. Diament is organizing our Literacy resources so that they can be used by all our students and staff. Mr. Pereira has even gotten out first sports team up and running with the Cross Country Team practising already! There is a great deal happening each day and I am very proud of how quickly all staff have come together to provide the best learning experience for all our students.

Newsletter
All of you should have received  the first paper JLPS Newsletter. There are some important dates mentioned in the Newsletter so please make note of them. As mentioned before our form of communication will be this school blog. If you ever have questions concerning any posts, please email me directly or contacted the school office.

Director, Superintendent and Trustee Visit
We were pleased to welcome on the first day of school our Director J. Phillip Parappally, our Superintendent Paul Valle and our School Trustee Linda Aversa, who had an opportunity to tour the school and some time to speak to staff and students.

Opening Day Excitement!

Our First Opening Day was a big success!  The sun was shining, the students were excited and the teachers were anxious to meet their first students ever at Johnny Lombardi. All our students connected with their teachers, were able to walk through our beautiful building, saw familiar faces and even made some new friends. We hope you were able to enjoy the moment and that  it will become one of your child's favourite memories of school. Thank-you to our Director, Superintendent and Trustee for joining us on our opening day.

*Parking Reminder*
A reminder to all parents/guardians that if you chose to park in the visitors parking lot you must go through the Kiss n' Ride to leave. We had some parents trying to exit through the entrance of the parking lot. In order to ensure that all our students are safe and to avoid car accidents from happening please do not do this, but proceed with the flow of traffic.
